Spliced
Tapes on SSMD Taping
Equipment
The
robust carrier spliceability can significantly reduce costs
of the taping location.
1. All tape is used, no scrap, no waste. Scrap and waste can
consist of up to 15% of tape cost. Unusable (unspliceable) carrier
on input supply reels (insufficient length for another output
reel), is spliced on the taping machine - without purging the
taping machine in order to add a new supply reel.
2. Taping equipment is more efficient with SSMD
carrier - no downtime to replace carrier supply reels. This
is of particular importance for A) deep pocket carrier where
reel changes are frequent, or B) fully automated taping equipment
does not have to be stopped and purged to replace carrier supply
reels and reattach cover tape to carrier. This can result in
increased taping equipment "availability" and more
throughput.
3. Reworked reels for a "less than full reel" no longer
require unpackaging and repackaging. Keep parts on pockets and
simply splice on additional carrier length, remove cover and
replace with new cover. One set of tools accommodates all EIA
tape widths from 32mm to 152mm.

56mm carrier
